    The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labelling of containers of WHMIS "controlled products", the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.

  • Alberta: Occupational Health and Safety Act
    The letters W-H-M-I-S stand for “Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System”. WHMIS is a national hazard communication system. It affects suppliers, importers, and distributors of potentially hazardous materials used at work sites,
  • British Columbia: WHMIS Regulations and Guidelines
    The following sections of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation have been identified as being most relevant to WHMIS. However, other sections of the WCA and OHS Regulation will apply to your workplace because hazards and tasks vary from workplace to workplace.
